Gathering

We believe the church is the family of God, so we want it to be as casual and welcoming as dropping into your friend’s or family member’s home when you come to church. You can come as you are and will find people from lots of different backgrounds in our church.

We usually sit around tables for our whole time together and free hot and cold drinks and snacks are always available.

We begin with a time of singing, led by our band. The songs we sing are part of our prayers to God. The words are up on the screen so you are welcome to join in or just listen. Some weeks we have a time of Communion after the singing, with crackers and juice.

After our time of sung  worship, one of our teaching team leads a practical talk from God’s book, the Bible. Sometimes we stop as we go through the talk to process and discuss what we are hearing. After the talk, we spend some time listening and responding to God in prayer or worship.

Families usually eat when they get together, and so do we! After the service (around 4:45 or 5 PM), we share a simple meal together (free) as we relax and talk with each other. We hope that you will join us. If you have dietary requirements, please let our welcome team know when you arrive.

Kids & Youth

All ages are welcome at all of our gatherings.

The first Sunday of the month we have a Messy Church type meeting where we follow a different format and have lots of options for all ages to engage in worship creatively. (We still have food afterwards!) If you would like to pre-register for Messy Church (recommended but not required) and let us know any dietary requirements, click on the next Messy Church in the calendar below!

The rest of the Sundays, there are fun groups for children nursery age through primary school and also for youth (ages 11-17) during the service. We take safeguarding seriously and abide by written safeguarding guidelines.

Families with very young children are welcome to stay in the main worship area or we also have a room next to the main meeting room where you can still hear the service, that has a bit more privacy and some toys if carers would like to hear what is going on but the little ones need a break from the big room.

We started weekly worship services as the East congregation in April 2023, following a period of community discernment and prayer, and an Alpha course run on Sundays.

We strive to be an intercultural, family-like community which invites everyone in, encountering Jesus together and living out His love in the communities where He has placed us.

In all we do, we seek to be

Prayerful

Coming to our Father boldly and expectantly as our growing habit and first response, no matter what our situation.

Missional

Intentional about connecting with those who don’t know Jesus yet; learning to take every opportunity, both in and outside of church, to live out His love and our new life in Him.

Relational

A family-like community where everyone is valued, where we both give and receive (and where we eat together a lot!).

Simple

In approach, not as an end, but as a tool to help us make space for the Holy Spirit to move; and to prioritise time and energy for connection with God and people.

We also value team leadership and have a local leadership team made up of people from our East congregation who provide prayerful guidance, accountability and direction for us as a site.

We are a part of Birmingham Vineyard Church and work under the church as one of its sites, accountable to its senior leadership and trustees. We participate and contribute to the church as a whole, and East site members are especially active in the church-wide youth and young adults groups.

We are involved with Hall Green Churches together and value our partnership with St Michael’s Church, Hall Green, in whose building we meet.

We believe that compassion and justice are important to God. As part of our response to living this out, Birmingham Vineyard Church started a Growbaby centre out of St Michael’s Church Centre (where our East site meets) in November 2022. Growbaby receives donations of new and gently used clothing, toys and equipment for babies and children ages newborn through age 5, which are then supplied to anyone who needs them in an atmosphere of dignity, kindness and prayer. We have an amazing volunteer team from local churches and the community who make this all happen.

Growbaby at St Michael’s is currently shut as we reorganise to meet the increased demand and to serve our clients and volunteers better. We are planning to relaunch in September 2024 and are actively recruiting volunteers for the sorting team (Tuesday mornings), DIY team (to check equipment and furniture and to take trips to the tip when needed), and client care team (during opening hours, likely on Thursday mornings).

If you are interested in volunteering with Growbaby, contact Maddy at growbaby-east@birminghamvineyard.com

If you would like to donate items, you can still do so at our City Centre Growbaby in Digbeth. You can find out more information here
